Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Is this a book? Yes it is! And it is our book of the month in honor of the first movie coming out on the 18th of November. I'm so excited that it is completely unreasonable. Anyway, the book Fantastic Beasts is a school book that Harry Potter had at Hogwarts. It has been published and is part of a set called the Hogwarts Library. It comes in a package with Quidditch Through the Ages and the Tales of Beedle the Bard. It has an A-Z of fantastic beasts, so we will read the notes by Albus Dumbledore on day 1. Then the rest of the introduction on day 2. And after that one letter per day. Have fun Harry Potter fans!

Ahhh... memories. I read this book in second grade for the first time. I loved it. I have read it every year since. It has only grown more awesome. The last time I read it, it was last year in fifth grade. Some of you reading this might be going ohhh... Long story short, my gifted teacher last year read this to us. She was the best read-alouder ever (is that a word? Cause google is telling me no. Whatever). Anyway, this book is about a kid name Donovan Cirtus. He gets into some HUGE trouble at his middle school. Though the world's biggest mix-up, he winds up at the gifted program. The big question is, how can an average kid hideout at a school for complete geniuses? Through a school robotics club, a human growth and development project, an introduction to YouTube, Tin Man, Oz, a statue of Atlas, and a whole lot of crazy fun, you will get very connected with this story and it's amazing characters.
Banned Book Week
Wow. The Hobbit, Harry Potter, Junie B Jones, Captain Underpants. What on Earth do these have in common? They've been banned. Yep. Really. Harry Potter has been banned from some schools and libraries because of Harry using magic and that apparently he does not have a good story arc (strongly disagree). The Hobbit (one of my mom's favorites) was also banned for using magic and animals and creatures that were not real (so let's ignore all those ancient myths and famous writing in which they made up animals, shall we?). Junie B. Jones was banned for using bad grammar ( like first graders have great grammar!) and for being to crazy. And Captain Underpants was banned for being too violent.
I will say that some books on the list I used had reasonable reasons to be taken out of schools. But no book should EVER be taken out of a public library. NO BOOK EVER.
What????? When you ban books, you ban creativity. The point of Banned Book Week is to not only raise awareness that reading is a gift and should be treated like one, to convince people that it is NOT okay to ban books because you don't like the writing style *cough WHY WOULD YOU BAN HARRY POTTER cough*, to show people that everyone likes to read different books and you are not the center of the universe, and if you think that everyone shouldn't be allowed to read a book because it's not your cup of tea your wrong. People are always going to like different things than you. And reading is no exception.
MILLIONS of people love Harry Potter. I've made some very close friends because they were wearing T-shirts refencing this book. Your going to take that away from kids? Harry Potter is what got me to start reading. In first grade I read that book in my closet with a flashlight. The whole book. Because I thought that books were only for "nerds" or "geeks" and at the time I wanted nothing of the sort. I soon realized that reading is for everyone and good books are written for people who can be stereotyped as "nerds" or "geeks." That doesn't matter to me anymore. To quote Emma Watson (the actress who played Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films) "Girls should never be afraid to be smart." Now, I read whenever and wherever I can. Reading has become a big part of my life. All because I read a book in a closet. My cupboard under the stairs.
The point is, that reading changes lives. We shouldn't limit what kids can and can't read. The part that I think is the most important about Banned Book Week is thanking teachers, parents, and librarians for making sure we get to read the books we love all the time. The library is magical resource. It can open doors to new places.

"Books give a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything." -Plato

The Junction of Sunshine and Lucky (July 2016's book)
I have a story for this one. So I read this book during the school year and LOVED it. I mean I LOVED it. Like favorite book of all time love. You know what I mean. Anyway, for a writing- themed school project I decided to interview an author. The author I chose: Holly Schindler. If your like me, and after reading this one you fall in love with it, you can get in contact with the author through the "contact" button on her website. ;-) Anyway, I emailed her... and she responded!!!! I know right! Like, ultimate best moment. So we emailed back and fourth six times. It was amazing! I knew that when I started making this website, this would HAVE to be the first book. So here you go. You are going to LOVE this.
